Strawberry Lemonade

Spread the LOVE

Nothing is more refreshing than a glass of ice-cold lemonade on a hot day.  But have you ever tried strawberry lemonade??

Adding fresh strawberries to lemonade takes boring lemonade to the NEXT level!

Fresh lemons and fresh strawberries are a combination you will not forget.  Today you will learn how to make this delicious combination that will be the hit of your next BBQ!

This recipe will make about a quart of strawberry lemonade.

You will need the following: 4 – 6 Lemons, 1 ½ cups fresh strawberries, sugar and water.

Start by removing the zest of 2 lemons with a potato peeler. The zest is the skinny top layer of the skin. We don’t want the bitter white part.

The zest contains essential oils and actually has more flavor than juice.

Put the zest of 2 lemons into a small saucepan. Add 2 cups water and 1 ¼ cups sugar. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes.

Turn off the burner and let cool down while we juice the lemons.

Juice the lemons. You will need 1 cup of lemon juice.

Wash and cut the tops of the strawberries.
Place them in a blender to puree.
You will need about 1 cup and a half of the strawberry puree.

Take the saucepan with the lemon zest and sugar. Strain to remove the lemon zest. Pour the liquid into a 1-quart pitcher add the strawberry puree and add 2 cups of water.

Mix and serve over ice.

One More Tip: Sugar Rimmed Glass

Sugar rimmed glasses add appeal and also adds flavor!

Here is how it’s done:

Take a wedge of lemon or lime and squeeze the juice around the rim. Hold the glass upside down so the juice doesn’t run down the side of the glass. (I couldn’t hold the camera and take the photo holding the glass upside down. Whoops!)

Fill a cereal bowl with turbinado sugar (available where sugar is sold in the supermarket).

Dip the glass into the sugar to coat the rim.
